Loneliness

Hebrews 13:5b, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Have you ever been lonely?  Webster’s dictionary defines loneliness as: sad from lack of companionship, being without company.

I believe loneliness is a feeling of no one caring. There is no one to talk to and share our thoughts and needs with.

Isaiah 43:2 says, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

John 14:16,17b say, “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; … for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

The truth is that you are never alone.

Jesus is with you …. God is with you …. the Holy Spirit is with you.

This truth of God’s presence in our lives can be a great comfort to us, but God knows that the companionship of other people can also be desired. Proverbs 18:24 says, “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly:”  It’s possible that you need to take the first step to reach out to someone else who also may be lonely.  Invite them to lunch, start a coffee group, visit nursing homes, be creative.  There are so many people out there who are suffering from lack of companionship.  We need to step out of our comfort zone and offer them our friendship.  Church is a great place to start!
